TASCS’s Inaugural Summer Summit Draws Over 180 People

HOUSTON (August 20, 2009) – The Texas Ambulatory Surgery Center Society (TASCS) concluded its inaugural Summer Summit with over 180 people attending the one-day event. In addition to learning more about the new Medicare Conditions for Coverage, TASCS provided attendees with their first opportunity to have infection control training under the new Medicare regulations.

"We were pleased to provide TASCS members with one of the first conferences in the nation that analyzed the new Medicare Conditions for Coverage,” TASCS Executive Director Bobby Hillert said.

Among the speakers:

Commercial Insurance Changes and Texas ASCs
Wes Chick of BlueCross Blue Shield of Texas addressed upcoming changes in the commercial insurance market for Texas ASCs.

Medicare Conditions for Coverage
Michael Kulczycki of The Joint Commission and Michon Villanueva of the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care provided an analysis of the new Medicare Conditions for Coverage.

State and CMS Surveyor Panel
CMS and state regulators served on a panel regarding the surveying of ASCs.

Public Policy Update
TASCS lobbyist Jaime Capelo provided attendees with an update on the legislative and regulatory issues that Texas ASCs faced in the 2009 Legislature.
