TASCS Hosts Member Networking Event in Austin

After over a year of virtual meetings during the pandemic, the Texas Ambulatory Surgery Center Society got back to in-person events on June 23. The event, held at Austin Eastciders, was the first stop on TASCS’s Member Networking Texas Tour, which safely helps the healthcare community network.

In attendance was Woody Moore, the founder of this organization, who said he was proud of TASCS executive director Krista DuRapau’s hard work towards keeping the society relevant during the pandemic. “Many advocacy organizations have not survived so (DuRapau’s) work and that of (TASCS’s) board going forward is immensely important,” Moore said. “Now in its 50th year, the ASC sector is once again in an aggressive growth phase with a number of models in play.”

Board members Jeff Blankinship, James McClung and Elena Fuentes made an appearance and all had a good time networking with new and old members alike. At the event, members got to learn about new things coming in the medical industry, including new pain relief options hitting the market from Aaron Consuelo, the institutional account manager at Trevena, and new centers opening soon from Fuentes.

“My organization (Pain Specialists of America) is growing and planning for three new ASCs in Texas in the next two years,” Fuentes said. The group offered suggestions and resources for staffing these new centers, and she added that these networking events are always a great place to meet ASC professionals who understand the daily concerns of the job.

DuRapau talked about how much she enjoyed the event and couldn’t wait to continue the tour all over Texas, in order to catch up with other regions.

“It was an exciting and refreshing evening to be together once again with all of our members and to hear about new centers opening, new products coming to the market, new procedures moving into the ASC space and new partnerships and efficiencies in our industry,” DuRapau said. “The most rewarding part is that these innovations and changes all benefit patients in Texas and our healthcare system.”

June’s event was possible, thanks to sponsors Clifford Power and GelPro Medical, who both had representatives come out to talk about their respective companies. Clifford Power provides dependable generator equipment, as well as servicing and rentals, to ensure ASCs have continuous power. GelPro Medical provides several different types of mats with advanced comfort technology so that standing in an OR or anywhere else for hours doesn’t leave your feet sore and tired.

We are so excited to be meeting face-to-face, once again, and we are looking forward to many more happy hours, town halls and conferences! Learn more about our upcoming events here, and become a member today, in order to take advantage of this and more.
