Why Your Brand Needs To Be On Social Media

Social Medial Likes and Hashtags

The benefits of being active online include driving more traffic to your website, building up trust, staying current on industry news, and so much more.

Social Media EngagementLinkedIn got its official start in 2003, Facebook has been around since 2004, Twitter launched in 2006, and Instagram came about in 2010. Since then, the world has not been the same, as we are more engaged and connected than ever before.

Some turn to these sites to share life updates or to stay in touch with friends and family across the world, while businesses and associations can be enhanced through social media. In fact, there is NO reason a brand SHOULDN’T be on at least one of these platforms.

The latest data shows that 4.65 billion people are on social media – a number that has grown by 326 million in the past year alone. Additionally, 55% of these people discover new brands while on social sites. Therefore, over 90% of companies are involved in social media marketing, with the majority saying that these efforts have upped exposure and traffic.

If you could shine a bigger and brighter spotlight on your product(s)/service(s), why wouldn’t you? Below are 10 reasons your brand NEEDS to be online:

  1. Build up awareness: A top reason to regularly post to social media is to stay top of mind. Each time your fans, clients, followers, and customers log in, they will see your latest posts, learning more about your industry and your company/organization.
  2. Boost your traffic: On a similar note, these regular posts will increase traffic to your website. You can link to specific events, products, and blog posts or encourage people to contact you.
  3. Humanize your brand: Social media allows you to show off your human side, as well. For instance, the Texas Ambulatory Surgery Center Society shares Membership Monday profiles/graphics and photo albums of events. Both of these feature the real and wonderful individuals that help make up the society!
  4. Present thought leadership: Based on what is shared online, thought leadership can be established and maintained. This could even lead to further opportunities, such as being invited to speak at an industry function or being interviewed for an industry publication.
  5. Collaborate with others: Think about all of the people and brands online…and think about all the collaborations that could happen. From teaming up on giveaways or parties to writing blog posts for each other’s websites, the options are endless!
  6. Engage with fans: Similarly, being part of an online community allows brands to reach audiences in a whole new way and, in turn, allows for many, many more people to become a part of said community.
  7. Earn positive reviews: Those who use your product(s)/service(s) can leave you reviews online, helping to build up your credibility and reputation. This is extra important for brands with several locations. For example, certain hospitals, stores, and restaurants can be found in multiple cities, yet each will need individual social accounts; not only will this allow for sharing individualized news, but it will also help keep track of each locations’ reviews.
  8. Promote your work: No matter what your company or group does, it needs to be shared with the world…and it can be through Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and beyond!
  9. Check out competitors: Some of the billions of people online are your competitors. You can check in on what other brands are doing, learn new tricks of the trade, and work to stand out even further in your space.
  10.  Get updated news: Many turn to social media for news updates, and this is a wise way for brands to stay current on industry happenings. Furthermore, if you are in the news, reporters and publications need to be able to tag/mention you, which will get you even more exposure.

Beyond this, brands should consider…

Social Media Awareness

  • Analytics and advertising options available through social media, which provide insightful information and get you in front of your target audience members
  • Google, which includes everything from your current hours and reviews to ads that allow you to rank higher in searches
  • Your website, which gives a first impression of your business/association and can help with many of the points above (such as building awareness, featuring certain product(s)/service(s), and creating thought leadership) P.S. Your links to your social platforms should be included on your website so that people can easily find and follow you.

Well, what are you waiting for? Go get online, and while there, be sure to connect with TASCS on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn!
