TASCS Summer Road Trip Series: Journal Entry #3

This summer, TASCS has been visiting ambulatory surgery centers throughout Texas, in order to learn even more about these facilities and to continue spreading awareness about the growing ASC industry.

Spicewood Surgery Center in Austin

On July 22, the TASCS team visited Spicewood Surgery Center in Austin, which opened in December 2019. From the welcoming front office to the attention to detail, this single-specialty facility focuses on customized care that helps to improve patients' quality of life.

The center’s new administrator, Katie Pierson, DNP, RN, ONC – who won our Rising Star Award this year! – provided an informative and energetic tour that showed off the two operating rooms that see about 5,000 procedures each year. With state-of-the-art medical equipment and technology, Spicewood Surgery Center performs a variety of pain management procedures, including nerve blocks, stimulators, and injections of pain medicine.

Additionally, the 17 employees receive catered lunches throughout the week, as a special treat that shows appreciation for these hardworking heroes.

TASCS is thankful for and proud of ALL who work in healthcare (especially those in Texas-based ambulatory surgery centers) and can’t wait to mingle, learn, and have fun with everyone very soon at the annual conference, the next stop on this road trip!
