TASCS Summer Road Trip Series: Journal Entry #4

This summer, TASCS has been visiting ambulatory surgery centers throughout Texas, in order to learn even more about these facilities and to continue spreading awareness about the growing ASC industry.

Before the annual conference, the TASCS team visited NW Surgery. Founded by a physician in 1999, it is one of the longest-standing, independent, physician-owned surgery centers in Houston.

nw surgery centerThe surgeons cover a wide range of specialties, such as orthopedics, pain management, and spine, knee, hand, foot & ankle surgery.

Furthermore, NW Surgery’s new, state-of-the art facility helps ensure that all procedures deliver the highest quality in care. Part of this care even includes massage chairs being used for patients instead of stretchers…How nice! Tina Krause, the surgery center’s administrator, had input on the new design, and the build was done by Triton, a company that delivered quality work for them before.

During the tour, Krause mentioned that NW Surgery is working towards a direct pay model andnw surgery houston is working with The College of Health Care Professions, in order for techs to be able to job shadow at the center. This is so important, especially in the midst of a healthcare workforce shortage, and hopefully, other ASCs will be inspired to serve as clinical training sites and to have students come in to shadow, train, and learn.

Now, summer is wrapping up, as is our road trip series. But don’t worry: There is much more excitement to come, ranging from our infection control event later this month and capitol day in March to more town halls & networking events, tours with legislators, a website refresh, and beyond. Be sure to join us and like/follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn, in order to keep up with all we’re doing to help promote the growing Texas ASC industry!
