National Advocacy Day and its fly-in, Capitol Day, and our 2023 Annual Conference are all just around the corner, and the Ambulatory Surgery Center Association’s (ASCA) David Opong-Wadee shared the importance of and the goals for these events.

Happening February 27 through March 1, 2023, National Advocacy Day allows for relationships with the policymakers who make decisions that directly impact the ASC community. It includes congressional meetings on Capitol Hill, training, and dinner.

There’s a sense on the Hill that an omnibus will occur at the end of the year to pull together hundreds to thousands of appropriations. Therefore, ASCA is working hard to expand co-sponsors and obtain further support for specific provisions. The two key provisions garnering support are:

  1. a copay cap to guarantee the same copay cap that exists in the hospital setting in the ASC settings, per procedure, ensuring patients can get coverage in ASCs

  1. codifying ASC reimbursement rates to the market basket so that ASCs can be aligned with outpatient facilities

Then, on March 7-8, TASCS will hold its 2023 Conference. Registration opens soon, and until then, you can read about last year’s success here. Important bills relating to ASCs can also be seen in Gavel to Gavel, a newsletter from our lobby team, Congress Avenue Partners.

We encourage you to attend all of these events, in order to support the industry, become educated on timely topics, network with peers, and help advocate for/promote ambulatory surgery centers.
