TASCS Road Trip Series: Our First ASC Tour Of The Year

Each year, the Texas ASC Society heads out across the Lone Star State, stopping by to see ambulatory care leaders and touring their high-quality, cost-effective surgery centers...like the new Kelsey-Seybold Memorial Villages Campus!

the new Kelsey-Seybold Memorial Villages Campus

While in Houston for the Texas Ambulatory Surgery Center Society's (TASCS) happiest hour event on March 23, Executive Director Krista DuRapau and Membership & Meeting Coordinator Jennifer Schlabach visited with TASCS Board Member Akshay Tavkar, senior director of ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) at Kelsey-Seybold, to tour an ASC that is set to open soon.

All of Kelsey-Seybold's facilities are all-inclusive, one-stop shops with primary & specialty care, advanced imaging, laboratory services, and a retail pharmacy. At the brand's new hub locations, the top floor is reserved for ASCs. The TASCS team toured the new Kelsey-Seybold Memorial Villages Campus in West Houston, seeing four operating rooms (quite large...600 square feet each!) and two endoscopy procedure rooms, with their own spaces for supplies, clean in & outand nurse work areas (which were incorporated after receiving input from nurses).

The layout, as a whole, resembles a racetrack, creating a circular path and quick access to all areas. Additionally, staff can conveniently access any area of the multi-use building through back-of-the-house elevators. The efficient design is obvious throughout the center -- seen from the lobby, with its updated requirements for private consultation/billing, and the ample (free!) parking to the flow from the pre-op to post-op rooms.

This will be Kelsey-Seybold's third ASC to go up in Houston, and more are in development. Be sure to check back here regularly, as TASCS will be visiting and sharing info on many other ambulatory surgery leaders!
